What are Catharsis Confessions?

You are invited to submit a confession to our magazine. Our anonymous confessions are short blurbs that students at University of Iowa can use to express their truth in its rawest and briefest form. These statements can be anything: a fear, a dream, a regret, or a betrayal---big or small, life-altering or irrelevant. Confessions can be considered creative works, but our aim in collecting student confessions is to eliminate the pressure on students to be eloquent and consider themselves “writers” to publish their experiences or any fragment of their life stories. Any and every student can express their honesty through our confessions, and we hope that they can find catharsis through this action. We believe that our confessions encourage students to embrace truth in all its complicated beauty, and discover that, often, our innermost worries and desires are more connected than we realize.

The rules are simple:

  1. Your confession must be something you have never told anyone before.

  2. Your confessions must be true. While we cannot truly fact-check confessions, we ask that you help us create a safe environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their secrets by remaining honest with your submission.

Be brief. Be creative. Be true.

So, what is your confession?
